If you have a simple question I may be able to just answer it. The language does support pipes and redirection more or less as you would expect. To get help on a command, type in the command followed by /? For example, chdir /? will pop help on the change directory command. There is a very limited IF statement, and and echo statement. there is also a "more" command, and you pipe to it the usual way.
I have not found a general introduction to batch files in the win98 system. In win98, they are encouraging people to switch to the Windows Scripting Host, known as WSH, which can be used either with jscript (i.e., javascript) or vbscript (i.e., visual basic). You can find tons of documentation on WSH at the Microsoft site, not necessarily useful, but extensive. WSH is also available on later versions of Win95.
Lastly, you might try looking for the batch language at the Microsoft site.
