I particularly like this wording because it covers more general cases.
We generally think of the message being sent to the thing access is
being granted to, but that is necessarily something active. In some
systems, we can think of the capability as a reference to something
static, such as a file. In that case, the message is delivered to some
active entity that handles the request as if the file were an active
object. In some systems, we call that active entity a facet. Other
systems can use a different mechansim, such as a dispatch table. Your
wording covers both.
