In computer science an atom is the lowest indivisible abstraction concept.
To some extent I would say that the Software Atom is the "bit" !
(well-known as being singular and indivisible.)
At higher abstraction levels, things change considerably, and we consider
"atomic" some aggregation of bits called "object" or whatever.
