The core published an event for every message.  The auditor would search
for events invoking the capability to the file in question and see if
the reply went to Alan's inbox.  If such an event was found, Alan would
go to jail because he sold stock during the quiet period.  If one wasn't
found, the hard work looking for other evidence would begin.
