There's a key point about the CAP machine which makes it difficult to draw
conclusions from it that are applicable today. If it was networked it was
only connected to the Cambridge Ring within the Computer Lab, which was a
small benign environment unlike the modent Internet. I get the impression
that the developers found the protection against accidents useful, but
they didn't have much to say about protection against deliberate attack.

Unfortunately the relevant papers seem to be behind IEEE paywalls and even
though I work for the University of Cambridge I can't read them. Sigh.
