The phrase "to what extent Microsoft is aware" is ill-defined. Microsoft is
the size of a small city. One would not ask to what extent Chico, CA
(population ~89,000, close to Microsoft's size) is aware of the powerbox
pattern.
Several of the people I listed above as being Microsoft employees were
heavily involved in the CapDesk design and/or security review work, so there
are definitely *some* Microsoft people who are very aware of the issues in
designing interfaces which are both usable and secure.
