I favor #1, but with a simple drop-time pop-up menu rather than a
dialog box. The reason is that on current systems I find myself doing
a right-button drap-n-drop in order to get a drop-time menu anyway;
since I have learned to be skeptical that the system-chosen defaults
are what I want.
