skimming it - the main thing i come away with is, gosh, the olpc
project is just plain cool for trying out this grand experiment at
all.

i'm also wondering, with respect to theft deterrence, about the
"advertising" aspects of security -- how much technological tricks
might end up not working simply because the thieves either didn't hear
about it / read the paper, or because they aren't savvy enough to
understand what it all means? e.g. the part about "In countries with
intermittent Internet access leases can be longer—we believe the
activation system will be an effective theft deterrent even with 3
month leases" has me wondering if somebody might steal it anyway maybe
just because the instant gratification makes it worthwhile, even if
they have to throw it out in 3 months.
