If I understand their design correctly, in EROS or Coyotos, this can be
done by the constructor of the application's instance.

For example, when you start a game, it's constructor could grant the
created process a capability to add new high scores. In the typical
case, the process that asks the constructor to create a new process
would not have the authority to get its hands on the capability for the
score board.
