Do most users look for a "make a link to this page" feature in this  
case?  I do.  For example, when using google maps, and I want to send  
the current view to someone.

My guess is that users intuitively classify web pages into two kinds:  
"shareable" and "not shareable".  The shareable ones are the ones  
that you didn't have to log in to see, or if you are already logged  
in then you guess whether this page is the sort of "public" and  
authorityless page that probably doesn't require a login. So, pages  
that users think are probably "shareable" are mostly only static  
content and in-page movies/games.
