I do not view unreliability of networks as an ultimate problem.
(with proper architecture, nodes that are down, if their service is not
replicated, may cause hindering the processing of the request to some
finite time until they are up again).

However, due to the threats below our protocol, DDoS cannot be prevented
if we build our distributed system on something that does not have fancy
Digital Silk Road at the bottom.
(If it can be implemented).
I wquld be (If my goal were to build defensively correct distributed
software system) more worried about DDoS than unreliability of networks.
