In a report released today, the National Research Council of the National
Academy of Sciences stated, "Making networked information systems that
control the nation's vital services as secure and reliable as they need to
be is beyond current capabilities, according to a new report from a
National Research Council committee. The federal government should take the
lead in supporting research needed to create new approaches that will
prevent environmental disruptions, attacks, and operational errors from
causing entire networks to collapse."
