I was not so much arguing against the changes you propose as reacting 
(possibly overreacting) to your statement about a "slam dunk".  I wanted to 
recalibrate us on the difficulty of resolving these issues, including the 
syntactic issues.  If they turn out to be easy, great.  But let's expect 
them to be hard.  It'll help us take them seriously enough.  I believe you 
are treating them seriously, so I really was just reacting to the "slam 
dunk" statement.
