What is the problem? I'm happily running WebFunds on JDK 1.1, 1.2
and 1.3 with the Cryptix JCE using symmetric and asymmetric ciphers
as well as X.509 support. Work remains to be done but I am not
aware of any 1.1-specific problems?

Read the freebsd-java mailing list archives for a good
description. It's more sensible to port 1.2 first and
have others hash out the 1.3 problems.
