"resource" for your "object" so that my reply may be clearer.  I'm also 
giving this thread a different title.

Everyone, David Wagner http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~daw/ is a CS professor at 
Berkeley specializing in Computer Security.  He is well aware of the 
historic literature on capability systems.  Ping, who recently became a 
Berkeley grad student, is taking David's course, and has introduced our 
perspective to David, and has introduced David to us.  David asked me to 
give a talk, & I sent David a list of recommended reading.  He responds:]

P.S. If you come to give a talk, we could discuss about the papers on 
capabilities systems.  (Most of them I had read already, although I must 
admit to some skepticism about whether it is really the mere fact of storing 
permissions with subjects (as opposed to [resources]) that is buying you so 
much here, as opposed to explicitness or other features of the system.)
