Sounds like my favorite story from the automatic translator demonstrated at
the 1964 Worlds Fair.  (Yes, I am old enough to have attended.)

It seems that they translated the phrase "The spirit is willing but the
flesh is weak." into Russian and back into English.  The result was only
slightly less strange than MarkM's result.  It came out "The vodka is strong
but the meat is rotten."  No joke.  The New York Times reporter was there
and wrote it up for the paper.
