SimCopter asked if I wanted to upgrade my DirectX, and I stupidly said yes.
It took me hours to get my machine back into usable shape.  Now I almost
always say no to such requests, and I've found that the software works just
fine 90% of the time.  If it doesn't, I accept the upgrade and cross my
fingers.
