OK, one relevant edit from an anonymous user.  :-)

I realize it is a pain to have yet one more website that you have a
username and password for.  It's gotten to the point where I have to
write them all down, because I can only remember about a dozen of my
most often used.  (*)

The problem, of course, is that we have no way of measuring the lost
contributions by turning off anonymous edits.  If the consensus is that
we ought to have that enabled, I'll turn it back on.
