Unfortunately, there's not a lot published on the Tandem operating
system (formerly called Guardian, now called NonStop Kernel). (Aside:
I've noticed it's difficult to get articles published that describe a
completed working commercial system, as opposed to what could be
considered "research".) One article is:

Bartlett, Joel, A NonStop(tm) Kernel, Proc. 8th Symp. O.S. Principles,
ACM, Dec 1981

Checkpointing between process pairs remains our main mechanism for
containing faults. Fault containment domains in Tandem are not a formal
OS concept; they are generally an application-level concept. They are
orthogonal to processors.
