[EROS-Arch] trouble building: No rule to make .call.m

Am I just doing something stupid here, or is the CVS tree broken?
There's been a lot of discussion since June 4, which was the last time
I saw the "No rule to make .call.m" problem discussed here, and a lot
of that discussion seemed to imply EROS was buildable. But I get this
message when I try to build, and I just did a fresh checkout tonight.
CVS can't seem to remember ever having a call.c in
eros/src/base/lib/domain/crt, but its Makefile has referred to call.o
for quite a while.
(It seems that makerules.mk looks for .foo.m files for each foo.o file
in OBJECTS, and OBJECTS includes a bunch of files I didn't get any
source for.)
If I'm not just being stupid, is there a tag in CVS's history that's at
least stable enough for me to build a working EROS from?
