A few years ago I did work at Tandem Computers (now Compaq) on a memory
mapping architecture very similar to that of EROS and KeyKOS. Part of
that work was the invention of a new way to manage the caching of
information from segment nodes in mapping tables. A patent has recently
been issued on that invention, so I can now discuss the work publicly.
You are invited to read my explanation of the patent at
<http://www.macslab.com/charlies/patentExplanation.html>.

In 20 years or so, EROS might consider using this method.

Two related patents (on copy-on-write and locking pages) are not
directly applicable to EROS or KeyKOS because they assume all mapping
structures can be found in main memory. Segment nodes on disk would
present a problem.
