i would be really interested in hearing from somebody else that has also
run the tests in tests/perf directory. it seems likely that i have made some
sort of error when doing the tests, and would therefore like to get either
a confirmation that the tests work as advertised, or a independent
confirmation that some of them do not end successfully.
the kind of error detection work i will have to deploy is quite different
in the two cases
