Status and Appearence of EROS? rcwash@us.ibm.com

Greeting!

Please forgive the cross-posting. I have been subscribed for almost a week and haven't received a single email, so it is hard to get a feel for what topics are appropriate. Also, this will act as a test just to make sure the list really is working for me :-).

I am involved with computer security as was quite excited when I first heard about EROS. I have read or browsed most of the documents on the web site, but I still have a couple of questions:

  1. Just what is the current status of EROS development? The info on the web site is almost two years old in places. Is EROS being actively developed? Are volunteers needed? I am not a prolific programmer, but I can write and do documentation.
  2. Just what does the User Interface look like? The web page states that EROS is still in the "Hello, world" state, but there must be some concept of UI whether or not it has been implemented. What will authentication look like? Classic user name/password? What will the user be able to do at the prompt? Unix/Posix like shell commands? A completely new set of commands/utilities?

Please let me know if this info is, in fact, on the web site and I just missed. Give me a pointer and I will be glad to Read The Friendly Manual :-).

BTW. my personal interest would be to set up EROS as an Internet gateway/firewall/proxy server. I'm sure it's not ready for that yet, but that is the direction I will be looking in.

Thanks in advance...
